Admiring Scottish Highlands

What is the 1st thing that comes to your mind when talking of Scotland? Bagpipers? Scotch? Tartan scarfs?

We drove to the beautiful Scottish highlands and it was an unbelievable experience. If you have ever had the opportunity to escape to Scotland to follow in William Wallace’s footsteps, or even Harry Potter’s, then hopefully you have had the chance to drive in the Scottish Highlands. Sure, Edinburgh is fantastic with it’s Castle overlooking the city center and hiking Arthurs' Seat is perfect for stretching your legs, but nothing compares to hopping in the car and heading north to explore the many back country roads in the Scottish Highlands. Over every hill, through every village there are picturesque vistas to keep even the most jaded landscape lover happy. Plus you will more than likely meet a few highland cows and sheep as well.

When you visit the Highlands of Scotland you will be amazed how much wildlife can be seen. Not forgetting the beauty of the lochs(lakes), woodland including the Scottish Pine, and a wide range of wild flowers and plants in the Highlands. Enjoy the rich culture, unspoilt Highland countryside and much, much more.

The Scottish Highlands contain some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery, including National Parks and vast areas of unspoilt wilderness. From the vibrant city of Inverness and Loch Ness (Home of Nessie the Loch Nessmonster) to Fort William, to the tranquil and peaceful islands.

We stayed at the Isle of Skye for a couple of days and what an experience it was. Its' a place that has something for everyone. Skye if time is short. Skye if you have plenty of time. Orkney if you want to get under the skin of a different kind of island, with a Scandinavian flavour.  Herbides if you need to run away and hide for a few days. Actually, nearly all of the islands are rewarding. But, I love Skye.

The Highlands of Scotland are known for their rich cultural heritage and historical background, many visitors come to the Highlands to trace their Scottish ancestors, or visit Scottish CastlesMuseums, and other Scottish historical sites. Others come for a great holiday at the various Scottish B&B's, Castle Accommodation or Scottish Highlands Cottages. The region offers an eating choice of Pubs, Restaurants, Highland Cafes and Tearooms.  Whether young, not so young or a family there are plenty of Indoor Activities and Outdoor Activities. Activities include: WalkingHiking, Golf, FishingCycling, Mountain Biking, Bungee JumpingMountaineeringRock Climbing etc. Alternatively you could view Ben Nevis (Highest Mountain in UK) via the Gondola, or have a picnic at a country park or by a Loch in the Highlands.

While the gazillion waterfalls run from unseen natural landscapes, this nevertheless provides a picture perfect scenery. Whether they are tiny trickling slithers that have to flow around obstructions or thundering cascades of white water that tumble over precipices they all have something in common. They all add to the wildness of the Scottish highlands. With each waterfall creating a beautiful contrast against the jagged granite rocks.

Don't miss touring the Scotch distilleries while you are in Scotland. Its like your didn't go to Eiffel tower while you were in Paris :) we went to Talisker in Isle of Skye.

Scotland’s weather can be unpredictable – but it isn’t as bad as you’ve heard. (In fact, you should have been here last week. Everyone says that :) Just pack some sun-cream, a few layers, a light raincoat and good walking shoes. You’ll be fine.
