Thinking of a honeymoon destination? Confused? So were we. But finally we zeroed on Maldives. Maldives is another dreamland for me. Where sands are white, where fishes swim happily in the warm waters of the Indian ocean, where the weather is a dream, and the deep rays of the sun wait to engulf you in their arms. The islands of Maldives provides a tranquil haven for visitors.
Maldives comprises of 26 islands arranged in a string. Each island has its own resort encircling the lagoon. While it is the perfect place to sit on a beach and watch the sunset with a cocktail balanced on your hand. It is also a geographical marvel knowing that there are thousands of fishes swimming around the vivid corals just a few feet away from where you are sitting.
Maldives has deep blue seas, turquoise reefs, white sandy beaches and palm trees. It was a special vacation for me as we went there for our honeymoon and I must say that this is a perfect abode for honeymooners. It has everything, from a great relaxing place after the hustle and bustle of a wedding, to water sports, to sun bathing. Maldives has it all.
Our stay in Anantara Veli resort was beyond words. It is the most luxurious vacation I have ever had in my life. The resort is great, the staff is really hospitable and it has amazing food options ranging from Thai to Indian to Italian, anything and everything you can ask for. The day we landed on this resort, there was a welcome beach party. They welcomed us with garlands and their traditional rituals. It felt so good.
We stayed in a water bungalow in Anantara Veli (you can see that in the pictures below) and it was an amazing experience. I would give this place 5 stars for its hospitality.
The next day we snorkeled our way and it was fun. We took a 45 mins snorkeling class and I enjoyed the amazing sea life, lovely corals and colorful fishes. The views were breath-taking.
One advantage of staying in Anatara resorts is that they have two resorts nearby. We stayed in Veli and could enjoy Dhighu also. They have a free water shuttle that takes tourists from one island to another, so we got a chance to explore both the islands.
The capital city of Maldives is Male' and the airport is located there. So, the only way to reach the island resorts is by a water or air taxi. Our resort was at a 20 mins distance from the airport, so we took a water taxi for pick-up and drop-off.
After 4 fun-filled days, I was sad to realize that our luxurious vacation had come to an end and I hated to go back :(

- Best time to visit- You can visit Maldives anytime of year. It is always pleasant there. I visited in December and it was warm and sunny.
- Read reviews before booking any resort and plan to stay at one resort for your entire vacation (travelling between islands is tough). Check out Anantara's reviews at http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g3612469-d1024787-Reviews-Anantara_Veli_Resort_Spa-Veligandu.html
- Be mindful of the water/air taxi to reach your resort as it is a bit pricey.
- Things to carry- sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and a good camera (you will not get tired of clicking pictures).
